GPU mining is profitable again?! After shutting down and leaving a huge amount of my GPU mining hardware sitting around, I’m finally turning some of my old rigs back on.

Pearl & Quantus is currently making GPU mining interesting again, and some of my 170HX GPUs are doing extremely well. I’m also testing my old CMP210 and BC160 rigs, dealing with a VERY dirty GPU mining rig, and finding out which hardware is actually worth running right now.

My 170HX rig is currently making around $22/day while using roughly 1.5 kW, while the BC160 rig is making only around $3/day. I’ve also got more GPUs sitting around that could potentially be brought back online.

But does that mean I recommend getting into GPU mining again?

Probably not.

If you already own the GPUs, motherboards, risers, frames, CPUs and power infrastructure, the numbers can make sense right now. But buying everything from scratch just because GPU mining has become profitable again is a completely different story.

I’ll keep testing these old rigs and see how long this profitability lasts.

I bought another Blake2B XBT Bitcoin ASIC miner… and I honestly expected it to be DEAD ON ARRIVAL.

This $900 IBLink BM-S3 arrived in absolutely disgusting condition. It's covered in dust, dirt, and whatever else this thing has been through — but somehow, it actually powers on and starts mining!

The IBLink BM3 is supposed to do around 19 TH/s at roughly 3,100 watts, and after several hours of testing, mine was averaging around 17.6 TH/s.

But that's not even the craziest part of this video.

Today we're GPU mining Quantus (QNT/QTC) — a new Proof-of-Work coin — and I'm showing you exactly how to ...get started with Quantis mining on both HiveOS and Windows.

I'm using Kryptex to mine Quantus and automatically get paid out in Bitcoin. I'll walk through the complete setup, including the HiveOS flight sheet, SRBMiner configuration, wallet setup, mining pool selection, Windows setup, and GPU overclocking.

I bought THREE ...Goldshell Bitcoin Blake2B miners… but these were definitely not all in the same condition!

I picked up a brand-new Goldshell SC5 Pro 2 and two heavily used Goldshell SC6 17 TH/s miners. The SC5 Pro 2 was extremely clean, while the two SC6s arrived looking heavily used, dirty and covered in rust.

Before putting them into my mining rack, I decided to clean the used SC6 miners and inspect the hashboards. Surprisingly, the hashboards actually looked much cleaner than expected.

But then came the moment of truth…

One of the SC6 miners powered on and started mining. The other one? Absolutely nothing. No lights, no fans, no power.

I suspect the 3,300W/3,400W power supply may have failed, so I'm now looking for a replacement to hopefully bring this 17 TH/s Bitcoin miner back to life.

I also put my SC6 on a solo-mining setup and pointed my SC5 Pro 2 toward Rabid Mining's new pool to help provide some hash rate.

With the Blake2B/BIP-110 Bitcoin mining network still evolving rapidly, profitability has also changed dramatically since the network launched.

I've got two more Blake2B miners coming as well, so this mining experiment is definitely not over yet!

The NVIDIA 170HX GPU is getting another potentially HUGE unlock — and this one could take PCIe bandwidth from Gen 2 to Gen 3!

A new software/fuse-based unlock is being developed that could potentially unlock PCIe Gen 3 on the 170HX. Early testing appears to show dramatically higher PCIe bandwidth, but there is a major warning: the developer has delayed the release because the required fuse process could potentially brick cards.

So I'm NOT trying it on my entire collection yet!

I've already unlocked my 170HX GPUs to 64GB of VRAM, and I've been experimenting with using these cards for AI compute, inference, GPU rentals, and potentially training. If PCIe Gen 3 becomes stable, these GPUs could become even more interesting for AI workloads.

In this video, we're taking a look at what's happening across several major ASIC-minable cryptocurrencies, including Kaspa (KAS), Dash (DASH), Zcash (ZEC), Fractal Bitcoin (FB) and Bitcoin Blake2b.

Kaspa has been showing some life recently, and with hash rate coming off the network, some Kaspa ASIC miners are becoming profitable again. I take a look at miners like the Bitmain KS7 and KS5 Pro and whether the current profitability is actually enough to justify turning them back on.

Zcash has also gone on an absolutely massive run, with Zcash ASIC profitability looking extremely attractive right now. But does that mean you should rush out and buy an $8,000-$10,000 Zcash miner? I'm not convinced. We talk about the risks of FOMO, increasing network hash rate, new Z15 Pro/Z15K hardware and what could happen if more miners come online.

I'm also running more Bitcoin mining hardware, including six additional Antminer S21 XP miners. That brings my Bitcoin mining operation to around 8 PH/s currently, with plans to potentially reach 10 PH/s.

And then there's Fractal Bitcoin...

Fractal Bitcoin recently went through its first halving, cutting the block reward from 25 FB to 6.25 FB. However, some mining profitability calculators are still showing extremely high Fractal Bitcoin profitability. I take a look at why those numbers may not be accurate and whether miners moving huge amounts of hash rate toward Fractal Bitcoin could be making a mistake.

Plus, we have another update on Bitcoin Blake2b, including the recent hash rate cap on Alpha Pool and the push toward greater mining pool decentralization.

I've also got more Bitcoin Blake2b ASIC miners arriving, including Goldshell SC6 units, an SC5 Pro 2 and IBLink BM3 miners, so there will be plenty more mining tests coming soon.

Bitfortun BS1 fake hashrate exposed: the BM1373 lottery miner shows 5.5 TH/s on the screen and dashboard, but ...the real hash rate is about 5.1 TH/s. The firmware adds +400 GH/s in code.

Huge credit to JD at Harlo Labs for finding the +400 GH/s offset in Bitfortun’s GitHub/firmware, and to Red Fox Crypto for catching the API reporting ~5,100 GH/s. I ran the BS1 on my local Public Pool (Umbrel) and the extra 400 GH/s never shows up at the pool.

In this video I show:

• Why pool numbers fluctuate and why 3 hours is not enough to “see” 400 GH/s

This is not stolen hashrate — the chip is hashing. The display and dashboard are inflating the number. On a small lottery miner, 400 GH/s is a real % of the spec, not noise like a 3–5% swing on a big-boy Bitmain box.

If you own a Bitfortun BS1:
1. Check API / pool average, not just the screen
2. Watch for Helium Deploy’s compensation / listing update (they’ve already moved the product page toward 5.1 TH/s)
3. Wait for Harlo Labs firmware — flashing the ESP32 should be straightforward

I am not a firmware developer. I missed this on the first review because I treat small-miner variance like large ASIC variance. That was a mistake on this class of device. Every GH/s matters when people are buying “5.5 TH/s” lottery tickets.

Today we're testing the Hammer Miner Thor P2 Bitcoin solo miner — a tiny miner with ...TWO BM1373 ASIC chips, around 10 TH/s of hashrate, and power consumption around 160 watts.

The Thor P2 sells for around $449 USD from Helium Deploy, and I've been testing multiple voltage and frequency settings to see where this little Bitcoin miner performs best.

But there's one BIG thing you need to watch out for…

I tested the Thor P2 all the way up to 11.2 TH/s at 208 watts, but the voltage regulator temperatures climbed significantly. I also tested lower-power settings to find the efficiency sweet spot, including a setting that reached 6.3 TH/s at only 86 watts.

Then things get really interesting.

I flashed the Thor P2 with a new Harlo Labs firmware and got access to a completely redesigned dashboard with ASIC tuning, RGB lighting controls, pool latency testing, diagnostics, alerts, firmware updates, and much more.

Even crazier, the firmware allows you to configure FOUR different mining pools at the same time!

I'll also compare the Thor P2 to the smaller Thor X1 and see how the new 120 mm fan affects noise.
