I've got a LOT happening behind the scenes right now, and this is probably one of the biggest updates I've given you guys in a while.

My NVIDIA CMP 170HX GPUs were originally something I was considering selling, but that has completely changed after a potential AI inference client reached out about renting servers specifically equipped with 170HX GPUs.

We're currently doing a proof of concept with two servers, each with eight 170HX GPUs, 384GB of ECC DDR4 RAM, and 2TB of storage. If everything works out, this could potentially turn into a five-figure monthly contract.

I'll also show you what I've been working on with my AI GPU rental business, including my 4090 and 5090 systems on Vast, my CMP 170HX setup, SimplePod, and the unfortunate death of one of my RTX 4090 GPUs.

There's also a LOT of new hardware coming.

This tiny Bitcoin ...miner surprised me.

The Hammer Miner Thor X1 claims around 3.1 TH/s while using roughly 38 watts, but after testing different voltage and frequency settings, I was able to get around 3.1–3.2 TH/s at approximately 51 watts at the wall.

I also pushed it higher and managed around 3.3 TH/s at close to 60 watts.

• ~3.1 TH/s at ~51W
• ~3.3 TH/s at ~60W
• Normal mode: ~2.7 TH/s at ~37–38W
• Custom setting tested: 470 frequency / 102 voltage
• ~16.4 J/TH at ~51W
• 100% accepted shares during testing
• Solo mining to my own Umbrel Bitcoin node
• 65W Lenovo power adapter
• Thor OS firmware updated from 1.0.2 to 1.0.3

At the normal advertised power level, the miner is particularly interesting from an efficiency standpoint. Once you start pushing the frequency and voltage higher, power consumption increases and efficiency gets worse.

The included power supply is rated for 65W, so I personally wouldn't want to push this miner much beyond the mid-50-watt range for long-term operation.

🌡️ TEMPERATURE & NOISE TEST

At 100% fan speed, I measured approximately:

• ~56–57 dB at about 0.5 ft
• ~50–51 dB at about 2 ft

Thermal testing showed roughly 60–66°C around the hottest areas during the ~51W configuration.

When I pushed the miner closer to 60W, temperatures were significantly higher, reaching roughly 80°C+ in my testing.

The Thor X1 uses Hammer Miner's closed-source Thor OS.

The interface allows you to configure:

Can Braiins OS make the Antminer S21 XP more efficient? I put it to the test!

In this video, I'm taking a brand-new Antminer S21 XP running Bitmain's stock firmware and comparing it against Braiins OS to see if I can improve efficiency, power consumption, and hash rate.

At around 89–90°F ambient temperature, my S21 XP was initially pulling roughly 3,900 watts from the wall while producing around 268–270 TH/s.

After installing Braiins OS and allowing the miner to autotune, the results were very interesting.

I was seeing roughly 270+ TH/s while pulling around 3,740 watts at the wall, giving me a significant improvement in efficiency compared to the stock firmware.

I also take a look at some of the features inside Braiins OS, including:

- Autotuning
- Continuous tuning
- Dynamic Performance Scaling (DPS)
- Power targets
- Hashrate targets
- Fan and temperature controls
- Individual ASIC chip health
- Hashboard monitoring
- Frequency monitoring

In this review, I test the Gecko Science Kbox for hash rate, power consumption, efficiency, noise, thermals, features, web interface, mining modes, and overall build quality.

I also test the low, medium and high power modes, look at the thermal performance, check out the RGB controls, explore the mining interface, and of course… play some DOOM on the miner!

At high power, I was seeing around 22 TH/s at roughly 320 watts, while medium mode was around 16.5 TH/s at approximately 245 watts, and low mode settled around 10.8 TH/s at approximately 175 watts.

The Kbox also includes several safety features, including temperature protection, fan-stop protection, double fuse protection and safeguards designed to protect the ASIC hardware.

So… is this the ultimate home Bitcoin miner?

I have WAY too many small Bitcoin miners sitting around… and honestly, I haven't been turning most of them on.

In this video I'm cleaning up my mining area, going through some of the small ASICs and solo-mining devices I've accumulated, and explaining why I've shifted so much of my focus toward AI GPU hardware.

It's summertime, these miners generate a ton of heat, electricity isn't free, and the economics of small-scale Bitcoin mining and solo mining have become increasingly difficult.

That doesn't mean I think these devices are useless.

For some people, they're a fun way to learn about Bitcoin mining, run a node, experiment with solo mining, or even use the heat during the winter. I've personally used devices like the Avalon Q as heaters while mining Bitcoin at the same time.

But there's a big difference between having fun with a small miner and expecting it to be a profitable mining operation.

And as I continue moving more toward AI GPU servers and GPU rental, a lot of these smaller miners are simply ending up sitting on shelves.

So… I might as well start giving some of them away.

So why am I still expanding my Bitcoin mining operation?

In this video, I take a look at the current Bitcoin mining landscape, Bitcoin hashrate, ASIC miner efficiency, electricity costs, mining profitability and why so many miners are struggling to survive.

I also talk about the miners that are becoming unprofitable around 8¢/kWh, why efficiency is becoming more important than ever, and why older ASICs are increasingly being pushed offline.

But there's another side to the story.

I recently bought six additional S21 XP Bitcoin miners, adding roughly 1.7 PH/s to my operation. I'm now around 5.7 PH/s, with more hashpower coming online.

I'm also changing my strategy.

Instead of immediately selling the Bitcoin I'm mining, I'm now planning to mine and hold Bitcoin, potentially accumulating around 1 BTC over the coming months while paying the electricity costs out of pocket.

Is this a terrible idea?

Or could the current Bitcoin mining downturn eventually create some of the best opportunities for miners who have cheap electricity, efficient hardware and enough cash flow to survive?
