I finally tested a new power solution for my four Bitcoin solo miners using an HP Platinum server power supply and the CryptoMachine.shop Tech Nerd Army PSUBB-V1 breakout board.

Instead of running multiple power bricks on 120V, I consolidated everything onto a single 1500W HP server PSU running at 240V to see if there would be any measurable efficiency gains.

The results surprised me.

After running the setup for over an hour, total power consumption dropped from approximately 1347W down to 1269W, saving around 78 watts while maintaining the same hashrate across all four Octaxes.

- The UTXOs that were swept span from 2021 to 2026

100% of the addresses swept were single sig, NONE of the addresses stolen from were taproot.

My 8× RTX 3080 AI GPU server experiment is officially over.

I built this RTX 3080 server only a couple of weeks ago, but the GPUs were running hot, rental demand wasn’t strong enough, and the power consumption made the setup difficult to justify. Some of the RTX 3080 GPUs were reaching around 89°C, while each card could consume roughly 320 watts under load.

So, I decided to remove the RTX 3080 GPUs and replace them with 10 unlocked CMP 170HX GPUs inside one of my Gigabyte G481 servers.

My existing unlocked 170HX GPU servers have been seeing much better rental results, and each rig has recently been earning around $40–$46 per day. The unlocked GPUs are opening up new possibilities, with the 8GB models reportedly reaching 64GB of usable memory and the 10GB models reaching approximately 40GB in current testing.

My plan is to build four Gigabyte servers with 10 CMP 170HX GPUs in each, for a total of 40 GPUs available for AI compute and GPU rentals. However, RAM availability has become one of the biggest limitations as I continue expanding these servers.

In this video, I remove the RTX 3080 GPUs, explain why the setup didn’t work, install 10 CMP 170HX GPUs, discuss AI GPU rental performance, and talk about the future of my 170HX server expansion.

I've now had this server online through SimplePod for several days, and the results have been pretty interesting. I've had people rent the full 10-GPU server, test different workloads, run AI inference, download hundreds of gigabytes of data, and even use the server through Hugging Face-related workloads.

At one point, the server was rented at 25¢ per GPU per hour. After SimplePod's 20% fee, the actual earnings are lower, but the potential is still very interesting for GPUs that I originally bought for roughly $150–$170 each.

This is one of the most interesting developments I've seen with these CMP GPUs. What started as cheap GPUs sitting around is turning into potentially useful AI inference hardware with a huge amount of VRAM.
